How Does Auto Choose the Model?
Understand the meaning of the default selection and when manual selection is needed.
Auto Is the Default Selection
Auto lets Hackcat use the default model configuration for the current mode, suitable for those who don't want to study the tiers first and want to start tasks directly. It does not mean always using the highest-tier model, nor does it promise to automatically upgrade to options you do not have access to based on the question.
The default configuration may change with product adjustments. When judging results, you should look at the answers and actual tool outputs, rather than interpreting Auto as a fixed vendor or fixed version.
How to Switch to Auto
Open the model menu in the input area, select Auto, then send a clearly scoped task. Free accounts will also use Auto when switching to the local Agent.
For example, when organizing a short test record, you can first let the default model output a list of questions and items to verify. Only if the results do not meet your clearly stated standards should you consider changing the selection; do not skip checking key facts just because it is called automatic.
- Confirm you are currently in the desired mode and environment.
- Open the model menu and select Auto.
- Check the result of a small task first, then decide whether to adjust the model.
When to Manually Select
If you need more complex analytical capabilities, you can manually select from the options unlocked in your account. If locked, first check the access requirements; repeatedly selecting will not remove restrictions. If manual options are temporarily unavailable, you can return to Auto to continue supported work, but you must still comply with account quotas and context limits.
